It's time to use MyCrap

I created MyCrap to help me sell and give away items that were cluttering up my life. The money was a great bonus, but seeing others go away happy and knowing my excess items were going to good homes made it even better. Now I'm sharing the MyCrap program and approach with you so you can do the same.

The MyCrap program is available for FREE for you to download. No fees, no charges ever.

Three ways to use MyCrap

MyCrap is a very simple program which helps you to put together a list of your excess items and produces the list as a web page saved on your computer's hard disk.

You can then

  • Print out the page and give it to people you know, or pin it to a noticeboard at work.

  • Open the page using Microsoft Word and email the page to your family and friends.

  • Upload the files and all the images to free web space on the internet. You can then send a link to your page to everyone you know.

The approach you use is entirely up to you.

Overview on using MyCrap

  • Download and run the MyCrap program which enables you to organise your items using your computer. You can change, add and delete items whenever you like, but remember if you upload your information to the internet, when you update your information you also need to upload your updated information and pictures.

The program is a great way to get a list of your excess items together.
The best part is the program is FREE.

NOTE: The MyCrap program contains no spyware or adware. The page produced for the internet has a link to the JustLocal home page, a link to the MyCrap page and Google advertising.

  • Locate free space on the internet which is generally available from your ISP.

  • Upload the page with your list of items and the pictures to the internet. (The MyCrap program creates the information in the correct format for the Internet.)

You don't have to upload your page to the internet. That is up to you. Putting the items on the internet lets your family and friends easily know what you have.

  • Send an email with a link to your page to all your family and friends inviting them to check out your items. Invite them to let you know about their items.

  • Sell, swap, or give away your items.

  • Sit Sit back and enjoy your new found space, that feeling of an uncluttered house that you once knew.

Detailed steps on using MyCrap

Let's get started.

  1. Click here to download the MyCrap program MyCrap.exe.
(Save the program into a new folder. I suggest using a folder called MyCrap on your C: drive.)

NOTE: Windows XP and Vista blocks downloaded executable files to stop them from running. Right click on the MyCrap program, select Properties and then click on Unblock. Now you can run the program. (Even though we have checked the program to ensure there are no virus infections, we recommend you also scan the program.)

MyCrap requires Visual Basic 6 runtime. Visual Basic 6 runtime is already installed on most computers. If it is not installed on your computer, you can download the files from the Microsoft web site using the following link. (Microsoft Visual Basic 6 runtime.)

  2. Run MyCrap.exe.

  3. Enter the settings including the folder where you will keep all your files, including your pictures (by default I suggest setting this to C:\MyCrap\Data).

  4. Take pictures of all your items and store the pictures in C:\MyCrap\Data (or the folder your entered). Your items will look great with pictures, but pictures are optional. (Make sure pictures are saved as jpg, are under 10K in size, and have a maximum width of 160 pixels.)

  5. Then enter your items and select the picture for each item.>

  6. View your items using the View option in MyCrap.

  7. Now copy all the files in the C:\MyCrap\Data folder to your free space on the internet.

  8. Check your page on the internet to make sure everything is OK for others to see. (Enter your web site address and browse your items.)

  9. Send an email with a link to your page to all your family and friends inviting them to check out your items.

Need Help

MyCrap is a free service but unfortunately we cannot provide free support.. You most likely have a knowledgeable friend who can help you. (MyCrap is a very basic application and most computer users should be able to work out how to use MyCrap.)

You are welcome to send me an email, but please remember my time is limited and I may not be able to reply.

If I can help, I will add the question to the my blog so it helps everyone and let you know.

Click here to read the manual (If you right click on the link you can save the manual to your computer.) Also check out the JustLocal blog where I share information on MyCrap.
